Investment Banking & M&A
A simplified investment banking insight explaining how confidential teasers are used during mergers, acquisitions, and fundraising processes to attract serious buyers while protecting company identity.
While working on an M&A assignment, I explored how investment bankers position businesses before sharing detailed confidential information with potential buyers and investors.
One of the first documents used in this process is called a Confidential Teaser — a short strategic document designed to create curiosity about the business without revealing its identity.
A Confidential Teaser is a preliminary investment banking document shared with selected investors or acquirers during mergers, acquisitions, or fundraising transactions.
It provides a high-level overview of the business, including industry, growth profile, market positioning, and financial scale, while intentionally keeping the company anonymous.
A teaser acts as the first impression of the business opportunity.
Investment bankers use it not only to present numbers, but also to shape the investment narrative, position the business strategically, and attract the right investor audience.
This demonstrated that investment banking involves communication, positioning, and financial storytelling — not just financial modelling.
